THE CHARKHA CONNECTION

Pedestrian Bridge at Randarada Lake, Rajkot, Gujarat

Project Overview:
The Charkha Connection is an innovative pedestrian bridge designed to link Pradhyuman Park with the main road and NH 27, gracefully spanning across a massive length of 200 m at Randarada Lake in Rajkot.

Named in honor of Gandhiji’s charkha, the Charkha Connection bridge transcends its functional role to embody the values of unity, self-reliance, and cultural pride integral to India's heritage. This bridge serves as a comprehensive 360-degree connector for Rajkot, linking key cultural and historical landmarks across Randarada Lake. By seamlessly integrating Pradhyuman Park, the main road, and NH 27, it creates a central nexus that enhances connectivity within the city. Beyond facilitating movement, the bridge fosters a sense of unity and coherence, reflecting Rajkot’s harmonious blend of historical significance and modern advancement, and standing as a symbol of the city’s dynamic cultural landscape.

Context:

It is home to 167 resident birds and 60 migratory species, surrounded by Pradhyuman Park and Safari Park, which are dedicated to nature conservation. Pradhyuman Park, relocated from Aji Dam in 2010, is a hub for wildlife conservation, featuring over 100 bird species, six mammals, and twelve reptile species. The lake’s surroundings, with their historical pathways and structures, echo Rajkot’s storied past and social fabric.
